Harvey Compton

Harvey Joe Compton of Potosi, Missouri passed away on February 28, 2016 at his residence having reached the age of eighty nine years and twenty one days. He was born on February 7, 1927, in Shirley, Missouri, a son to the late Thomas Jefferson Compton and the late Bessie Catherine (Huitt) Compton.

On June 29, 1950, Harvey was united in marriage to Norma Ruth Harmon in Potosi and to this union two children born. Harvey was a longtime member of the Potosi Southern Baptist Church and the Washington County Democrat Club. He served his country in the United States Army from February 14, 1946 through August 13, 1947. During his time of service, Harvey received the WWII Victory Ribon.

Harvey is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty five years, Norma Ruth Compton of Shirley, Missouri; two sons: Rev. Jerry Compton and wife Terri of Round Rock, Texas and Thomas Anthony "Tony" Compton of Shirley, Missouri; brother Luther Compton and wife Marie of Blanchard, Iowa; sister Eunice Compton of St. Louis, Missouri; grandsons: Jeremy Joseph Compton and wife Sarah of Round Rock, Texas and Matthew Wayne Compton of Denver, Colorado; great-grandchildren: Emma Ruth, Madeline Quinn, Jackson Wayne, and William Joseph; additional grandchildren: Tracey Bubalo and husband Stephen of Indiana, Tricia Field and husband Robert of Indiana, Sarah Cozart of Tennessee, and John Cozart of Missouri; and also surviving are many extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his brothers Jesse and Russell Compton; and sisters: Pauline Goodson, Bee Bittle, Edna Helms, Ada Corno, Ruth Eye; half sister Florence Sherman and sister-in-law Shirley Compton.

Friends may call on the family Friday, March 4, from 4:30 until 8:00 pm and Saturday, March 5, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at the DeClue Funeral Home.

A Funeral service for Harvey will be conducted Saturday, March 5, at 1:00 pm held at the DeClue Memorial Chapel with Elder Leonard Compton officiating assisted by Rev. H. Wayne Isgriggs.

Interment and final prayers will be held at the Redbud Memorial Gardens Cemetery were Harvey will receive full military honors consisting of a gun salute, flag folding and presentation and Taps by the United States Army and local VFW Post 6996. All funeral arrangements have been cared for by the DeClue Funeral Home.
