Harriet Showalter

Margie Showalter of Potosi, Missouri, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Fountainbleau Nursing Home in Festus, Missouri, having reached the age of eighty eight years, one month and twenty nine days. She was born on September 16, 1927 in Potosi, Missouri, a daughter of the late James Wilbur Showalter and the late Letha Mae (Moore) Showalter.

Margie is survived by her nephew C. Richard Evans of Dublin, Ohio. Also surviving are many special cousins and a host of dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by one sister Ava Marie Evans and two brothers Kenneth Elwin Showalter and George William Showalter; brother-in-law Charles Evans; sister-in-law Hattie Showalter: niece Peggy Evans; infant niece Barbara Ann Showalter; and infant nephew Terry Lee Showalter.

Margie was a lifelong resident of Potosi. She was a graduate from Potosi High School in the class of 1945. She attended all of the Potosi High All-Class Reunions and was recognized at the 2015 reunion as being the oldest class member in attendance.

Following her graduation in 1945, Margie went to work at Brown Shoe Company in Potosi and worked there until the factory closed forty one years later in 1986. She later worked as the secretary at the Potosi United Methodist Church until her retirement.

Margie was a devoted member of the Potosi United Methodist Church. She had more years of membership than anyone currently attending the church with seventy seven years having joined on April 17, 1938. She was active in several women's groups and served on numerous committee's through the years and was a part of all special events including helping to organize the two hundredth anniversary of the church in 2007.
Margie was involved in many civic organizations throughout the community. She was a member of the Cosmopolitan Society until it disbanded. She was a founding member of the Mine au Breton Historical Society. She was a local Red Cross volunteer for many years and she helped organize several blood drives. Margie was very patriotic and she was a life-long supporter of Republican Politics. Margie was a proud fan of St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and the Mizzou Tigers. She loved to read books, especially those on historic events.
Margie will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the DeClue Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from 9:00-10:00 am at the Potosi United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Margie will be conducted on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Potosi United Methodist Church with Reverend David Lindow officiating.

Interment and final prayers will be held at the Caledonia Methodist Cemetery, Caledonia, Missouri.

All funeral Arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
