Harold Sumpter

April 24, 1923 — December 6, 2008

Harold Frank Sumpter of Belleview, Missouri departed this life on December 7, 2008 at the John Cochran VA Medical Center, having reached the age of eighty five years, seven months and thirteen days. He was born on April 24, 1923, a son of the late Quince Sumpter and Rosie Parks Sumpter.

On October 11, 1946, Frank married Eula Brooks and they shared sixty two years together. Harold served in the United States Army during WWII and received the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Metal, 2 Overseas Bars and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Bradley Halbert; granddaughter Kerry Askew; son-in-law Lindell Halbert; Four sisters, Shirley Sumpter, Ruth Sumpter and Ruby Mack and Ola Gore; half sister Neva Adams.

Those who remain to mourn the passing of his life are his wife Eula Sumpter; son Dean Sumpter of Potosi; daughters Nancy Halbert; Connie Askew and husband John; Vickie Province and husband Michael all of Belleview; brothers Sam Sumpter of Arnold, Willard Sumpter and wife Trudy of Granite City, IL, Ray Sumpter and wife Mariam of Potosi; Sisters Ilene Brooks and husband Clyde of Belleview, Dosha Abney and husband Alfred of Davisville, Faye Conway and husband Junior of Kansas, Fern Thompson and husband Jim of Dillard; fifteen grandhildren; nine great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 11 AM at the Britton Chapel with Rev. Walter Mayberry officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Derek Sumpter, Neil Hovis, Nick Sumpter, Glenn Province, Mike Province and John Askew.

Interment and final prayers were held at Sam Crocker Cemetery in Bixby. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
