Glenwood "Pete" Phelps

March 2, 1927 — October 31, 2017


Glenwood E. “Pete” Phelps of Caledonia, Missouri was born on March 2, 1927 in Belgrade, Missouri a son to the late Herbert Phelps and the late Florence (Jinkerson) Phelps. On November 21, 1953, Pete was united in marriage to Mary Lee Gibson and there were three children born to this union.

Pete entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his family having reached the age of ninety years, seven months and twenty-nine days.

Pete will be missed by all who knew and loved him including his two daughters: Sandi Henry of Hillsboro, Missouri; Judy Phelps of Hillsboro, Missouri; son, Allen Phelps of Fenton, Missouri; two grandsons: Tyler Henry of St. Louis; Cody Henry and wife Tami of High Ridge, Missouri; three great grandchildren: Zoe, Logan and Mason Henry; one brother, Dwain Phelps and wife Nelda of Belgrade; sister-in-law: Viola Allen of Hillsboro; also surviving are a host special nieces, nephews and relatives.

In addition to his father and mother, Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Lee Phelps; sister, Bernell Dennis and many other dear family members.

Pete was a member of the Potosi Masonic Lodge 131 AF AM. He served in the United States Army from May 8, 1945 to December 12, 1946. During his time of service, Pete received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal of Japan. Pete will receive Full Military Honors consisting of TAPS, gun salute and flag folding and presentation by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 6947.

Pete loved family, horses and friends, and he spent most of his time with all of them. His family brought some of the first Appaloosas to this area and he enjoyed all the wonderful friends he made all over the country through his horses. He was always ready to offer a helping hand, or share a story. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he has touched.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 4:30-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, November 4, from 9-11 a.m. at the DeClue Funeral Home, 301 East High Street, Potosi, Missouri 63664.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. held in the DeClue Memorial Chapel with Pastor Allan Wilkerson officiating assisted by Elder Leonard Compton. Musical selections were In the Garden and I’ll Fly Away by Pete’s grandson, Cody

Interment and final prayers will take place in the Shoal Creek Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Funeral Home.
