Gilbert Louis Whittley of Mineral Point, Missouri wrapped his loving arms around Jesus on May 26, 2011 at his residence having reached the age of eighty four years and one month. He was born on April 26, 1927 at Sikeston, Missouri a son to the late Everette Whittley and Mary Hodge.
In addition to his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by his step father Francis Hodge; grandson Jimmy Daniel “J.D.” Whittley; five sisters Olla Mae Whittley, Lolla Mae Whittley, Ida Mae Whittley, Mary Frances Huffman, Bessie Marie Gamble and a brother Ralph William Whittley; one son in law Ivan Coleman, Jr.
On March 22, 1947, Gilbert was united in marriage to Mary Moen and they shared sixty three years together and seven children were born to this union.
Gilbert was a beloved husband and father. He had fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. All of them called him PaPa.
Gilbert worked for Pillsbury Flour Company for over forty years. He was known for his inventions there to speed up production and save the company man power and time and on several occasions even published in the St. Louis newspaper. He was best known for his ability to be able to do anything. He built the inside of his home he shared with his wife and children. He taught all his children his skills. He was everyones go to guy “a Jack of all trades”. If anyone had a question on how to fix anything from a car to a home repair, he had the answers. He was the head of the family and he and his wife raised all seven of their children to be wonderful and successful. He loved to go camping, fishing, hunting or play a good game of pool or chess with his family and friends.
Gilbert belonged to the Hopewell Church of God. He was a faithful servant and was ready to meet his Lord.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his beloved wife Mary Whittley of Mineral Point; three sons Amund “Sonny” Whittley and wife Brenda of West Plains, Jeffery Whittley of Mineral Point, Jimmy Whittley and wife Kim of Fenton; four daughters Judy Wagner and husband Roger of Bixby, Glorious Eva Sciara and husband John of Mineral Point, Mary Arline Bradley and husband Bud of Irondale, Sara Whittley of Mineral Point; two brothers Earl Whittley of Cherryville, KS, Mac Whittley of Kansas; half brother Donald Hodge of Kanas; sister Dorothy Dingus of Kansas; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 2 PM at the DeClue Chapel with Rev. Jim Wade officiating. Serving as pallbearers were AJ Vick, Joe Vick, Cory Lamipher, Scott Whittley, Jeff Whittley, Sonny Whittley, Shawn Barton and Travis Whittley.
Interment and final prayers were held at the New Hope Cemetery (McGee), Greenville, MO. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
