Geraldine Marcella Courtway also known by family and friends as Gerry, was born on September 11, 1935 in Washington County, Missouri, a daughter of the late Amos and Ivy Courtway. Gerry passed away peacefully on October 25, 2019 having reached the age of eighty-four years, one month and fourteen days.
Gerry is survived by one brother, Dutch Courtway and wife Carolyn; three sisters: Marie Rawson, Virginia Greenhill, and Rose Monroe; daughter-in-law, Debbie Smith; two grandsons: James Smith and Christopher Propst-Smith and wife Ashley; four great grandchildren: Tyler Smith, Jace Smith, Logan Propst, and Phoenix Propst-Smith; very special family: Linda and Roscoe Emily, Laura and Chris Emily and Families; also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Courtway; son, Mark Smith; two sisters: Mary Courtway and Geneva “Gen” Roderick; one brother, Bud Courtway; four brothers-in-law: Jay Monroe, Orville Rawson, Sam Greenhill, and Bernard Roderick; also preceding Gerry in passing were many other dear relatives.
Gerry led a simple life. She retired in September 2000 after many years of service at Midwest Containers in Barnhart, Missouri. She enjoyed gardening and picking wild green onions for her eggs. Gerry loved spending time babysitting. In her eyes, the children were all little angels. Gerry also enjoyed baking and creating her own recipes for cookies and pies. Later in life, Gerry liked watching old westerns and tv shows. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 10 AM to 12 PM at DeClue Funeral Home. A Funeral service will commence on Tuesday at 12 PM.
