Gary Wayne Mitchell of Belgrade, Missouri passed away on June 23, 2016 at his residence having reached the age of sixty three years, eleven months, and six days. He was born on July 18, 1952 in Illinois, a son to the late Loren Mitchell and the late Audrey (Tolbert) Mitchell.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Mitchell of Belgrade; three children: Tonya Trokey of Moberly, Rebecca Mitchell of Moberly, and Brent Mitchell of Belgrade; foster father, Tom Gullett; siblings: Charlie Mitchell and wife Cynthia of Yellville, Arkansas, foster brother Roger Gullett and wife Regina of Belgrade, foster brother Tommy Gullett and wife Armeda of Ft. Leonardwood, Debbie Conrad and husband Paul of Pontoon Beach, Illinois, Marilyn Nolan of Portageville, Rita Linn and husband David of Yellville, Arkansas, Wilda Crawford and husband John of Fredericktown, Estell Barks and husband Danny of Dexter, Roberta Childers of Wappapello, and Barbara Weber and husband Murrice of Pacific; six grandchildren: Jennifer, Aaron, Noah, Jalyn, Hayden, and Kaylee; two great grandchildren: Gunner and Nevaeh; in-laws: Tammy Davis and husband Cecil of Belgrade, Brenda Horton of Belgrade, Danny Rulo of Moberly and Elaine Mitchell; best friend Zyvonne “Bear” Dixon and Jackie; and many other extended family members and friends.
In addition to his biological parents, Gary was preceded in death by his foster mother: Lorraine Gullett; brothers: Donald Mitchell, Carl Mitchell, Gene Mitchell, and Jesse Mitchell; sister: Violet Rupert; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Kathleen Rulo; brothers-in-law: Brian Rulo, John Childers, Larry Nolan, Mike Horton, Leroy Rulo, and foster brother David Gullett; and sister-in-law: Evelyn Rogers.
Gary served his country in the United States Army from July 1970 until January 1972, during the Vietnam War. He later returned to the Army and served again from February 1981 until September 1992. During his time of service, Gary was awarded an Army Service Ribbon, a National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, an Army Lapel Button, a Good Conduct Medal, an Overseas Service Ribbon, a Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Professional Development Ribbon. In addition, Gary served his community as an officer and deputy.
Gary loved German Shepherds, enjoyed listening to the old Rock & Roll, and was a strong supporter of Donald Trump. He was one to never complain no matter how much pain he was in. Above all, Gary loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and family. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
Visitation for Gary was held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the DeClue Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A service was held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM with Bro. Ardell Gray officiating.
