Gary Bays

Gary Lee Bays of Union, Missouri, formerly of Potosi, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 having reached the age of 71. Gary was born on August 15, 1952 in Ironton, Missouri, to Jack Lee Bays and Lola Marguerite (Hill) Bays.

Those who remain to treasure his memory includes his dear friend, Ruby Bird; three grandchildren: Bryan Bays, Olivia Bays, and Celeste Bays. Gary also leaves behind numerous cousins and friends.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents: Jack and Lola Bays; two sons: Jason Bays and Jared Bays; and brother, Brian Bays.

Gary was one of the most loving and generous human beings one would have the pleasure knowing. Gary knew endless joy in helping friends and strangers alike financially. He was not only generous with his finances, but also willingly sacrificed his time. He volunteered at the Meramec Community Mission Local Food Pantry and Thrift Store in Sullivan. Gary was a passionate NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed watching a variety of sports. Gary was employed at The Doe Run Company of Viburnum for several years until his retirement. However, beyond his successful career and his honorable generosity, Gary's greatest joy came when spending time with his three grandchildren. Gary's granddaughters recall with laughter how their grandpa cared for their family pig known as "Pigwig". Gary's life was a testimony of his genuine love for his family, friends, and community.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 5 to 8 pm at DeClue Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Friday, February 2, from 9 am until the time of his Funeral Service at 11 am. Bro. Kirk Emory will be officiating Gary's service. Interment will follow at Midtown Memorial Gardens, Union, Missouri.
