Freddie D. Smith of Potosi, Missouri, formerly of Belgrade, departed this life on July 26, 2010 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of eighty seven years and eleven days. He was born on July 15, 1923 at Potosi, Missouri the youngest of nine children to the late Fred Smith and Ada (Allen) Smith.
Freddie was united in marriage to Verla Arlene Lawson September 1954. To this union five children were born.
Freddie served his country in the CC Camps and was in law enforcement for many years.
Freddie enjoyed auctioneering, coon hunting and fox hunting. One of his favorite pastimes was hunting and sitting around the campfire with the “Belgrade Guys”. Freddie was a simple guy who was very dedicated to his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by four brothers Percy Smith, Frank Smith, Floyd Smith, Lloyd Smith; four sisters Della LeVall, Maggie Kelso, Jessie Wigger, Dorothy Smith; grandson James Robert Reary.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are daughter Harriet Collier of Potosi; daughter Paula Jones and husband Brett of Bismarck; son Alan Smith and wife Georgia of Belgrade; daughter Dorothy Smith of Desloge; daughter Beverly Seim and husband Mark of Potosi; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 2 PM at the Declue Chapel with Rev. Leonard Compton officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Mathew Reary, Joshua Cantrell, Jeremy Aubuchon, Luke Smith, Jake Smith, David Klekamp, Dalton Seim and Dallas Seim.
Interment and final prayers were held at Mission Ridge Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
