Evelyn Elizabeth Boyet

May 11, 1943 — February 19, 2025

Evelyn Elizabeth Boyet, born on May 11, 1943 in St. Louis, departed this life on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Evelyn was a daughter of the late Elijah Bettis Matthews and the late Elizabeth (Curry) Matthews.

Evelyn's life was shaped by a strong work ethic and a commitment to serving others. She and her late husband, Joe, were the proud owners and operators of Hogs Market in Spingtown for many years. There, Evelyn delighted in the convenience store business and cherished the relationships she built with their patrons, especially the children who filled the store with laughter. She sometimes remarked that she had given away more candy than she could count, a testament to her warm spirit and her love for the young ones in her community.

After closing the store, Evelyn served as a substitute school teacher in various schools throughout Washington County. Her love for children shone brightly in this role. Additionally, Evelyn dabbled in real estate, finding joy in showing homes to potential buyers—another way she exemplified her generous heart by helping families find their perfect place.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Evelyn had a vibrant personality filled with interests and hobbies that brought joy to those around her. She loved getting in the car for drives, visiting different churches in the area, serving at Celebrate Recovery, and enjoying many conversations on telephone. Evelyn found comfort in listening to uplifting sermons on Victory TV, and attending family birthday parties at the bowling alley. Above all, she treasured every moment spent with her grandbabies—the highlights of her life.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Marvin "Joe" Boyet on August 25, 1969. They enjoyed 36 beautiful years together until his passing on November 1, 2005, and she carried his memory in her heart every day. Evelyn is survived by her three children: Tracy (Dale) McDonald, Tammy (Jeff) Benson, and James Dean "J.D." (Tina) Boyet; ten grandchildren: Kyndell Brown and Aubri, Kylee Brown and Alex Aden, Bryanna (Cory) Jones, Samantha (Kyle) Reed, Colby (Brittany) Benson, Aaleeya Benson, Melissa (Kevin) Wingbermuele, Jaron (Gina) Boyet, Joseph (Mindy) Boyet, and Dylan Boyet; twenty four great-grandchildren Owen, Anabella, Hayden, Hadlee, Carter, Daveney, Brooke, Jade, Brody, Cooper, Cash, Bennett, Breanna, Evan, Brynne, Eva, Jena, Ella, Ashton, Aubree, Ty, Lane, Zoe, Braelynn, and Emma Belle. She is also survived by a special niece, Shelly Boyet Pashea, and her children: TJ (Bryonna) Harmon, David Lee (Micki Jean) Boyet, Amy (Kyle) Dicus, and Isaiah; along with three siblings: Mark Matthews, Dana (Chris) Hartgroves, and Lisa Miller; special cousin, Sharon Lee Morris. Evelyn also leaves behind many additional nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin "Joe" Boyet, her father Elijah Matthews, her mother Elizabeth Matthews, her dear grandmother Eva Palmer, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Nancy Rasnic, and many other beloved relatives.

The legacy of Evelyn Elizabeth Boyet is one of love, compassion, and a heartfelt dedication to family and community.
