Eula Fae Sumpter of Belleview, Missouri, was born on November 1, 1927 in Belgrade, Missouri, a daughter to the late William M. Brooks and Lettie K. (Shipp) Brooks. Eula passed away peacefully on Monday, July 17th, 2023 at the Southbrook Nursing Center in Farmington, having reached the age of 95 years, 8 months, and 16 days.
On October 11, 1946, Eula was united in marriage to Harold Frank Sumpter and they shared 62 years together. Eula loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She faithfully attended Hickory Grove Assembly of God until services were no longer held there. She enjoyed embroidering and quilting. Eula was blessed with a wonderful family. She found joy in cooking for family gatherings or for anyone who stopped by to visit her and Frank. Eula always cooked for an army. No one ever left her home without being fed. Blackberry cobbler was one of her famous desserts among many other dishes she would prepare. She spent many days alongside Frank working on their farm tending to their chickens, cattle and milk cows. Eula never met a stranger. Eula retired from the Iron County C-4 School District in 1998 where she was a bus driver for 28 years. She will be remembered for being a hard worker and kindhearted.
Those who remain to treasure her memory include her four children: Nancy Halbert, Connie Askew (husband, John), Vickie Province (husband, Michael), and Dean Sumpter (wife, Lesa); seventeen grandchildren: Amy, Angie, Amanda, Tracy, Jill, Kayla, Alanna, Neil, Amber, Derek, Nicholas, Quince, Erica, Michelle, Glenn, Randy and Caleb; twenty-six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Eula also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to her father and mother, Eula was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Frank Sumpter on December 7, 2008; grandson, Bradley Halbert; granddaughter, Kerry Askew; son-in-law, Lindell Halbert; seven siblings: Calvin, Claude, Clifford, Cletus, and Clyde Brooks, Beulah Harbison, and Pauline Thompson.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 from 5 to 8 pm and will resume on Saturday morning from 9 am until the time of her Funeral Service at 11 am held at DeClue Funeral Home, 301 East High Street, Potosi, MO 63664. Pastor Paul Davis will officiate her service. Interment will follow in the Sam Crocker Cemetery, Belleview, MO. Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
