Eugene Gilliam

Eugene Hubert Gilliam of Belgrade, Missouri departed this life on January 22, 2014 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital having reached the age of ninety years, seven months and twenty nine days. He was born on May 24, 1923 in Quaker, Missouri a son to the late Troy Gilliam and Elsie (Gillam) Gilliam.
In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by a daughter Joyce Marie Vavak, three brothers Herbert Gilliam, Merlen Gilliam, Hurlen Gilliam and a sister Valine Gilliam.
On September 4, 1948, Eugene was united in marriage to Ruth Tullock and they shared sixty five years of marriage.
Eugene was a member of the Belgrade United Methodist Church.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife of sixty five years Ruth Gilliam of Belgrade; son Jack Gilliam and wife Karen of Carthage, Missouri; sister Clotine Harris of Belgrade; two grandchildren Natalie Gilliam, Jamie Vavak and wife Tonya; honorary granddaughter Meridee Haworth; three great grandchildren Megan Vavak, Adam Vavak, Jenna Vavak; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 2 PM at the DeClue Chapel with Rev. Jan Dillard officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Jack Gilliam, Jamie Vavak, Avondell Gilliam, Gilbert Boyer, Bill Martin and David Gilliam.
Interment and final prayers were held at the Caledonia Methodist Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Funeral Home.
