Ethel Virginia Hayes of Farmington, Missouri departed this life on February 9, 2007 at the Community Manor Nursing Home. She was born on February 21, 1909 at Marble Hill, Missouri a daughter of the late James Gilliam and Sara (Gibson) Gilliam.
Ethel was united in marriage to Andrew R. Hayes on March 26, 1926 at Farmington and eleven children were born to this union. Her husband preceded her in death in May, 1969. Ethel enjoyed going to church, embroidering and spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Hayes and David Hayes; a daughter, Donna Jean Eye; three brothers; three sisters; seven grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Bill Patterson and Arty Wren.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her sons, James Hayes and wife Edith Las Vegas, Thomas Hayes and wife Geneva of Farmington, Hershel Hayes and wife Lestie of Farmington, Elmer Hayes of Bowling green; her daughters, Maebell Paterson of Tiff, Mary Wren of Potosi, Eunice Jorden and husband Jimmie of Villa Ridge, Eva Sue Ingram and husband Gary of Fletcher; son-in-law, Johnnie Eye of Steelville; daughter-in-law, Shirley Hayes of Potosi; forty-five grandchildren; ninety great-grandchildren, forty-six great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 PM on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the Britton Chapel, with Rev. Larry Sprous officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Ricky Hayes, Daryl Jorden, Michael Hayes, John Wren, Ben Ingram and Jim Ed Hayes.
Interment and final prayers were held at the New Diggins Cemetery, Mineral Point, Missouri with all arrangements entrusted in the care of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
