Emory Oliver

December 8, 1946 — May 12, 2019

Emory Caleb Oliver, of Potosi, Missouri passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019 having reached the age of seventy-two years, five months and four days. Emory was born on December 8, 1946, in Sikeston, Missouri, a son to the late Caleb Hezacar Oliver and the late Helen Mae (Wallace) Oliver.

Emory is survived by his Dearest Companion, Janice Coleman; son, Christopher Matthew Oliver; special family: Lisa and David Ikemeier, Ashley and Mike Walker, Katie Ikemeier, Becky Ikemeier and Jenna Ikemeier; special cousin, Bertha Joyce; dear friends: Dr. Paul and Nedra Villmar, Ron and Myra Britton, Jimmy Moore, Jesse Brown and Craig Torwegge; Emory leaves behind many other dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Emory was preceded in death by his daughter, Lora Renee Oliver and dear friend Mark Akers.

Emory grew up in Sikeston, MO., the son of an absent father and a shoe factory worker mother. His recreation at the time was reading, swimming across the Mississippi River, and building rafts with his friend, Ron Stayton. Emory learned to cook at an early age and went to work at the age 12. After high school, he joined the United States Navy at 18 years of age.Emory became part of the elite special forces, serving 3 tours in Vietnam. He was a true patriot and was passionate about his country and education. "Emory, we salute you, and Thank you for your service".

Emory received his Maters Degree in education. He was proud to have been selected 1 of 36 people nationally to serve a fellowship at Columbia University in New York. Emory met many presidents and international top officials. He enjoyed working as the administrator of Kingston K-14 School District and as a Director of local Industrial Development Boards.

Emory was a determined man. You never had to guess what he was thinking. He would typically tell you or let you know quickly if he disagreed with you. He helped many people without wanting glory. Emory said he was satisfied with his life and had seen and done everything he wanted to do. He believed in Eternity and said he had many things to discuss with God. Emory will be missed by many.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 5-7 PM at the DeClue Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow beginning at 7 PM with Elder Leonard Compton officiating. Emory will receive full military honors consisting of flag folding and presentation, gun salute and TAPS.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home, Potosi, Missouri.
