Emmitt Howard Sappington of Potosi, Missouri, departed this life on July 4, 2007 at Washington County Memorial Hospital, having reached the age of 87 years, 4 months and 15 days. He was born on February 19, 1920, a son of the late Harry Emmitt Sappington and Bessie Kelso Sappington.
He was united in marriage to Ina Belle Bowden and two sons were born to that union. She preceded him in death on January 29, 1992. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, and a 50 year member of the Masons.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur William Sappington and Auzy Fred Sappington; and one sister, Mabel Harbert.
He is survived by two sons, Bill Sappington of Potosi, Harry Sappington and wife Stephanie of Potosi; three grandchildren, Hanna Sappington, Robert Sappington, Kandi Dodson; three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Benjamin and Brooks; nieces; nephews; cousins and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 10 AM at the Britton Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Pastor Victor Stevens officiating. Serving as pallbearers were
Interment and final prayers were held at New Masonic Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
