Elmer Levi Volner of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on July 31, 2011 at his residence having reached the age of eighty years, six months and twenty days. He was born on January 11, 1931 at Lesterville, Missouri a son to the late Herbert Volner and Cletta (Alley) Volner.
On June 11, 1955, Elmer was united in marriage to Gladys Parmley and they shared fifty five years together.
Elmer served in the United States Marines from 1952-1954. One of the medals he received during that time was the National Defense Service Medal.
Elmer loved talking on his CB. His handle was “Flying Squirrel”.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by three brothers Edward Volner, Jack Volner, Howard Volner; sister Alberta Doss; two brothers in law Carl Saunders, Lowell Cooper; two nephews Charles Saunders, James Lahmann; niece Nancy Saunders and a granddaughter Misty Dawn Gibson.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife Gladys Volner of Potosi; one son Rick (Cheryl) Volner of Potosi; five daughters Chris (Mike) Yarbrough of Desoto; Tammy (Mike) Rice of Potosi; Jackie Gibson and Johnny Politte of Potosi; Dana Volner and Buddy Eye of Potosi; Brenda (Kevin) Yarbrough of Cadet; four brothers Bobby (Norma) Volner of Potosi; Charles (Lealla) Volner of Arnold; Billy Volner of Republic, Missouri; Michael (Angela) Volner of Mineral Point; two sisters Francis Cooper of Potosi; Joyce LaVera Saunders of Potosi; sisters in law Hilda Volner of Potosi; Jane Volner of TN; eighteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 11 AM at the DeClue Chapel with Rev. Bob Thurman officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Brian Williamson, Johnathon Williamson, Bradley Williamson, Nick Volner, Matthew Rice, Michael Rice, David Revelle and Joshua Poucher.
Interment and final prayers were held at Calvary Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
