Edward Gamble

January 30, 1917 — August 1, 2014

Rev. Edward Earl Gamble of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on August 1, 2014 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of ninety seven years, six months and two days. He was born on January 30, 1917 in Washington County, Missouri a son to the late Aaron Thomas Gamble and Pearl Maybelle (Clemons) Gamble.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife Claudean Gamble, two grandsons Tony Gamble, Douglas Earl Gamble, four sisters and one brother.
Ed was well known in Washington County. He grew up on Furnace Creek where he attended the Furnace Creek School and Furnace Creek Church of God. He learned to drive at a young age, on a Model T Ford (no driver's licenses were required).
Ed was working in Patterson's Grocery Store when he met Claudean West. They were married at the Washington County Courthouse in Potosi, Missouri by a justice of peace. They had two children, Tom and Charlotte.
Ed had many jobs throughout his lifetime, from working in a grocery store, logging in the woods, working at Howells Tiff Mill, working at Crow & Boyer Lumber Company, to his most honored and fulfilling accomplishments as a Pastor and Teacher of the Word of God.
He was well known for his woodworking skills. He created many beautiful birdhouses, bird feeders, storage barns and wishing wells.
Ed's ninety seven year journey through his life was legendary. All those that had the opportunity to meet and know him were truly blessed. He will be greatly missed, but wants to celebrate his homecoming in heaven!!
Ed is survived by his son Thomas Gamble and wife Doris of Potosi; daughter Charlotte Berry and husband Everette of Decature, Arkansas; brother Gene Webb Gamble of Potosi; sister Fay Metcalf and husband George Robert of Elvins; grandchildren Jeff Gamble and wife Mary, Julia Nipper and husband Jason, Dennis Berry and wife Jerri, Timothy Berry and wife Candace, Andrew Berry; ten great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 1 PM at the DeClue Memorial Chapel with scripture by Rev. Firmin Gettinger, memories by Rev. Wendell Nipper, memories by Rev. Steve Campbell, memories by Rev. Don Strauser and the obituary read by Rev. Gary Petty. Musical selections were song by John Hartley. Serving as pallbearers were Jeffrey Gamble, Thomas Gamble, Matthew Gamble, Dennis Berry, Timothy Berry, Andrew Berry and Jason Nipper.
Interment and final prayers were held at Redbud Memorial Gardens. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Funeral Home.
