Edith Marie Whitley of Potosi, Missouri, departed this life on January 14, 2008, having reached the age of eighty four years, nine months and nine days. She was born on April 5, 1923 at Potosi, a daughter of the late LeRoy Turnbull and Lucy Edith (Evans) Turnbull.
Edith was united in marriage to John Alfred Whitley on September 30, 1948 at St. Louis, Missouri and six children were born to this union. Mr. Whitley preceded her in death on January 18, 2000. She was a member of the Lost Creek Baptist Church and attended the First Freewill Baptist Church in Potosi. Edith was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother; she was a dear sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lyndall Turnbull, Lee Turnbull and Lawrence Turnbull, a sister, Irene Eaton and a half-brother, Roy Parker Turnbull.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her children, Linda Whitley of Florissant, Lauren McEwen of Potosi, John Lee Whitley and wife Barbara of Potosi, Barbara ?Bobby? Mifflin and husband Curt of Kansas City, Alan Whitley and Sue of Potosi, Alison Akins and Donnie Adams of Potosi; one brother, Ivan Turnbull of Newburg; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nieces; nephews and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 PM on Friday, January 18, 2008 at the Britton Chapel with Rev. Donald Strauser officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Colin Whitley, Brandon Whitley, Nathan Benson, BrianBenson, Anthony Robertson and Jason Edgar.
Interment and final prayers were held at Lost Creek Cemetery with all arrangements entrusted in the care of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
