Dorothy Lela Thompson of Potosi, Missouri was born on July 19, 1927 near Sullivan, Missouri a daughter to the late Henry Knapp and the late Mary Birdie (Russell) Knapp. Dorothy went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 20, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Dixon, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-nine years, eight months and one day.
Dorothy was united in marriage to her love, Frank Thompson on June 21, 1947 in Potosi, Missouri. They shared sixty-three years together. Dorothy will be missed by all who loved and knew her including her two daughters: Irma Jean Dicus and husband John of Potosi; Diana Gail Wright and husband Richard of Dixon, Missouri; two grandsons: Chris Dicus and wife Tina of Potosi; Matthew Wright and wife Sierra of Dixon, Missouri; four great grandchildren: Randi Dickinson and husband Nathan of Park Hills, Missouri; Austin and Blair Dicus of Potosi; Riley Elizabeth Marte of Dixon, Missouri; one great great granddaughter Savannah Dickinson; sister-in-law, Thelma Knapp of Potosi; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank Thompson; two brothers: Charles and Edward Knapp; one sister, Hallie Stroup.
Dorothy was saved and baptized in March 1948 at the Breton Creek Baptist Church. She served the Lord faithfully with her husband Frank at whatever church he was currently pastoring. She taught Sunday school and helped in any way she could. She was presently a member of the Stony Point Baptist Church.
Visitation was held at the DeClue Funeral Home, Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 4:30-8 p.m. and Friday, March 24, from 9-11 a.m.
A Funeral Service was conducted on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Claude Evans officiating assisted by Rev, Bryce Wilson. Honoring Dorothy by serving as pallbearers were Chris Dicus, Matthew Wright, Richard Wright, Jimmy Douglas, David Douglas and Jesse Douglas. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Austin Dicus and Nathan Dickinson.
Interment and final prayers were held at the Redbud Memorial Gardens Cemetery. DeClue Funeral Home was privileged to care for the funeral arrangements for Dorothy during this time of Remembrance.
