Dorothy Delores Pickett, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend was born on October 11, 1940, in Ironton, Missouri. She left this world peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 surrounded by her love and the memories she created throughout her life.
Dorothy was the cherished daughter of the late Louie Akers and Iza (Sellers) Akers. In addition to her parents, Dorothy finds her eternal rest preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jesse "Tut" Pickett, her loving companion, Paul Kay, as well as her four siblings, Jimmy Akers, Burley Akers, Alta Gregory, and Wanda Kay.
Her legacy lives on through her five children: Jesse "Scrapper" Pickett Jr. and his wife, Paulette; Rhonda Davis and her husband, Greg; Joey Pickett; Tim Pickett; and Glenda Thompson. Each of her children carried with them the values and love that Dorothy instilled. As a proud grandmother to sixteen grandchildren—Tasha, Trenton, Tory, Jared, Jennifer, Dina, Trina, Joey, Sarah, Teah, Cristen, Timothy, Robbie, Jeffrey, Jay, and Brandi—her heart was filled with joy watching them grow.
Dorothy was also blessed with many great-grandchildren who brought an endless source of happiness into her life. She was a dear sister to Theresa "Cookie" Akers as well as her nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Dorothy grew up with her family in St. Louis City. She was a great cook, always providing her family with some delicious meals. Dorothy was a feisty lady with a sassy side. You never had to guess what she was thinking. Dorothy loved going to family gatherings held at her uncles: Dick, Arlie and Sonny's homes in Illinois where many memories were made. Additionally, Dorothy cherished her time spent with her sister Cookie. Dorothy loved "decoration day", taking flowers to the loved ones graves. Dorothy prepared for days for "decoration day." Dorothy received Christ as her personal Savior in the latter part of her life and was a faithful attendee at Jesus is the Answer Ministries Church in Cadet. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered in the stories shared and the gatherings that will carry her legacy forward.
