Doris Marie Midgett

March 23, 1939 — March 1, 2025

Doris Marie Midgett, a beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 23, 1939, in Peoria, Missouri, a daughter to the late Ivan Vineyard and Laura (Farley) Vineyard. Doris was a guiding light whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.

Doris dedicated 26 years of her life to the Valley R-6 School District, serving as the school secretary. Her commitment to her work and her caring nature made a lasting impact on both her coworkers and many students who passed through the school’s doors. A proud graduate of Valley High School, where she was the salutatorian, she took great pride in her education and the values it instilled in her.

An incredible cook, Doris found great joy in preparing meals for family gatherings and especially birthday dinners for her grandchildren. With great anticipation, she spent countless hours the night before family holidays meticulously preparing her most cherished dishes. Some of her families favorites included her chicken and dumplings, brisket, and her famous homemade pies. Each meal was more than just food; it was an expression of her love, creating lasting memories in her kitchen and around the dinner table.

Doris was the heart of her family, united in marriage to her beloved husband, Carl Elwood Midgett, on September 7, 1957, in Wortham, Missouri. Together, they shared 67 years filled with laughter and love. A woman of faith, Doris was one of the original trustees of Thomas Chapel and attended Belgrade First Church of God for many years. Doris loved the Lord and was a devoted Christian. She had a generous heart and was always ready to lend a helping hand to someone in need.

Doris leaves behind her loving husband, Carl Elwood Midgett; As a matriarch, her proudest accomplishments included being a devoted mother to five children: Pamela Marie (Steve) Loughary, Patricia Sue (Mark) Maledy, Peter Lynn (Angie) Midgett, Phillip John (Kim) Midgett, and Paul Franklin (Mary Jo) Midgett. She cherished her role as "Mimma" to twelve grandchildren: Cory (Shanna) Loughary, Cody (Julie) Loughary, Nathan Loughary, Andrew (Alli) Maledy, Laura Maledy, Preston Midgett and Christina, Kelsey Midgett and Matt, Megan (Jimmy) Barron, Morgan (Jackson) Conaway, Logan (Lyndsey) Midgett, Lance Midgett, Katie (Alex) Morgan; and eighteen great-grandchildren: Kiana and Justin, Keeton, Keller, Carson, Carlie, Easton, Kinsley, Emma, Allie, Abigail, Gabriel, Allyson, Myles, Mason, Mia, Baker, Laynie, and Jonah and two coming soon; and two great-great-grandchildren: Micah and Gracie. They were a constant source of joy and pride in her life. Doris loved keeping her family tree alive, often reflecting on her roots and the heritage she was proud to pass down. Additionally, Doris is survived by her sister, Maggie Luella Hardman; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nelda and Dwain "Nunny" Phelps; her special friend, Wanda "Corky" Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
