David Jerome Ruby, affectionately known as Jerry, was born on April 14, 1936, in Potosi, Missouri. He departed this life on October 15, 2024, in Farmington, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and hard work that will be treasured by all who knew him.

Jerry's journey began at a young age, instilling him a robust work ethic that he carried throughout his life. He attended both Bourgawitch and Potosi High School, where he laid the foundation for a life of diligence. Over the years, he worked part-time in various positions before finding a career with Pea Ridge Mines, where he ultimately retired after many years of dedicated service.

In addition to his professional achievements, Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army from January 6, 1959, to December 31, 1964. His military service was a testament to his commitment and sense of duty, qualities he exemplified in all aspects of his life.

Known for his remarkable skills as a handyman, Jerry frequently lent his expertise to friends and family, offering help with home repairs ranging from drywall to plumbing to electrical work. His generosity and willingness to assist others were hallmarks of his character. Locally, he gained a reputation as an exceptional horseshoe player, a sport he enjoyed passionately. Additionally, Jerry enjoyed coon hunting, an activity that allowed him to connect with nature and unwind from the demands of everyday life.

At the heart of Jerry’s life were the bonds he shared with his family. He loved them dearly, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him immense joy. He is survived by two sons, David Ruby and his wife Tina, and Dennis Ruby; a daughter, Donna Hughes; three grandchildren: Kayla Whelehon and her husband Corey, Justin Ruby, and Allison McAtee and her husband Jeremiah; and two great-grandchildren, Eleanora and Otto. He also leaves behind his brother, Virgil Ruby and his wife Jackie; sisters Louise “Lou” Barton and her husband Bill, and Dorothy Barton; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who cherished their time with him.

Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Ruby; his parents, John and Rose Ruby; his son-in-law, David Hughes; two brothers, Steve and Clarence Ruby; and sister, Marie Smith. Each of these loved ones played a significant role in his life, and their memories remain intertwined with his own.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation services held at DeClue Funeral Home in Potosi, Missouri, on October 16, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on October 17, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a service at DeClue Memorial Chapel. Jerry Ruby lived a life filled with dedication, generosity, and above all, love for his family. His spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of everyone he touched, as they carry forward his legacy of compassion and hard work. Rest in peace, dear Jerry. You will be dearly missed but always remembered.
