Charles Rice

Charles Washington Rice of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on May 2, 2012 at the Georgian Gardens Nursing Home having reached the age of ninety seven years, ten months and eighteen days. He was born on June 14, 1914 in New Madrid, Missouri a son to the late Washington Rice and Nelia (Wrenn) Rice.

Charles served in the United States Navy for four years while stationed in Alaska. He worked for Nooter in St. Louis and retired in 1978.

On October 22, 1978, Charles was united in marriage to Mary Ann Bourisaw and they shared thirty three years together.

Charlie, as he was known by his friends, had been living for the Lord for over fifty years. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God and had taught Sunday School, had been Sunday School Superintendent, drove the Church bus and had preached some in different churches. He loved God and served him faithfully through the years.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, son Jackie Rice, daughter Brenda Vernoy, step daughter Charlotte Love, step son Kenny Cowin and a grandson Johnny Boyer.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving wife of thirty three years Mary Ann Rice of Potosi; step daughters Pastor Connie (John) Carrigan of Potosi; Nancy (John L.) Boyer of Potosi; step son Donnie (Vicky) Cowin of Desloge; daughter in law Linda (Lee) Thomas of Illinois; brother J.W. Rice of New Madrid; sister Ellen Colbertson of Sikeston; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 2 PM at the DeClue Chapel with Rev. Wendell Nipper officiating and Pastor Joe Skiles assisting. Serving as pallbearers were Adam Wiggins, Kevin Love, George Whitaker and Donnie Cowin, Bro. Crocker and Russell Lemons.

Interment and final prayers were held at the Sunset Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Local VFW Post 6996. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
