Carl Gillam

February 24, 1943 — March 2, 2012

Elder Carl Lee Gillam of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on March 2, 2012 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center having reached the age of sixty nine years and six days. He was born on February 24, 1943 at Quaker, Missouri a son to the late Dewey Gillam and Sarah (Rosener) Gillam.

On January 25, 1969, Carl was united in marriage to Margaret Jarvis and they shared forty three years together. Prior to the wedding Carl had sustained a head injury that caused him temporary amnesia. It was during this time that some friends introduced him to Jo. Carl always said he did not know what he was doing when he got married.

Carl accepted the Lord as his personal Savior as a teenager. Later in life he was ordained into the ministry and he pastored several churches in the Washington County area.

Carl loved his grandbabies even though they were age five to twenty five, they were still his babies. He enjoyed giving his grandbabies rides on his tractors and cherished the farm because that was where he was born and raised. Carl gave each one of his grandbabies a calf they could name.

Carl enjoyed family gatherings, Halloween parties, birthday parties and much more. He loved telling stories of his growing up and his fellow workers. One of Carl's favorite hobbies was hunting and fishing with his sons, daughter, grandbabies, in-laws and neighbors. Everyone had a special place in his heart and if anyone ever needed anything, Carl would be there to help. The family remembers how Carl and Doc Turnbough would sit and talk for hours about everything one could think of. They would always eat ice cream or cake and drink coffee, and if they ran out of ice cream he would call the kids to get some more because the discussions were sometimes long.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by four brothers Harvey Gillam, Kermit "Gene" Gillam, Charles Gillam, Joseph Gillam and a sister Sharon Gillam.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife Margaret "Jo" Gillam of Potosi; daughter Carla (Dale) Bollinger of Potosi; two sons Jim Gillam of Potosi; Timothy (Patricia) Gillam of Potosi; three brothers Earl (Minnie) Gillam of Texas; Gary (Shirley) Gillam of Courtois, Missouri; Wayne (Nancy) Gillam of Jefferson City, Missouri; two sisters Virginia Keeton of St. Louis; Maggie Jo Gillam of St. Louis; four grandchildren Dale "Sparky" Bollinger II and fiancé Kelly Edgar; Blake Bollinger; Taylor Gillam, Bryson Gillam; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 2 PM at the Stony Point Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Evans officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Danny Gillam, Dale "Sparky" Bollinger, Blake Bollinger, Kevin Gillam, Denny Allen, Kelly Edagr, Christopher Jones, David Jarvis, Mike Jarvis and George Dotson.
