Carl William “Smiley” Brooks of Belgrade, Missouri was born on November 17, 1945 in Belgrade, a son to the late Charlie Brooks and the late Wilma (Hall) Brooks. Carl entered eternal rest on November 20, 2017 at his residence in Belgrade having reached the age of seventy-two years and three days.
Carl served his country in the United States Army from August 27, 1968 to March 31, 1970. He served in the Vietnam War with honor. Carl loved his family and enjoyed all the time he spent with them. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed working on old cars and had a passion for collecting coins. Carl loved his dogs as if they were his children: Gizmo, Teddy, Precious, Spike, Taco and his cat, Sassy. Carl was a foster parent for thirty-five years during which time he and his wife Veatrice cared for hundreds of kids. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Carl was preceded in death by his daughter, Marty McWhirter; granddaughter, Madison Hazel; an infant brother; Paternal Grandparents: William and Grace Brooks; Maternal grandparents: William and Eva Hall.
Carl is survived by his wife, Veatrice Brooks of Belgrade; James (Beverly) Brooks of Belgrade; Ronald (Kim) Brooks of St. Louis; Joshua (Jesse) Brooks of Potosi; Nick Brooks of Farmington; daughters: Rhonda (Eric) Beckman of Oceanside, California; Sue Hedrick of Hancock, Wisconsin; Brianna (Fiancé Larry Howell) Brooks of Farmington; Sierra Brooks of Potosi; Amanda (Jesse Briley) Aubuchon of Belgrade; Sarah Burns of Marble Hill; Ashley (Doug) Luttrell of Marble Hill; Lisa (Rick) Gilbert of Texas; thirty-eight grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; brother, Kevin (Doris) Brooks Farmington; sister, Linda Berry of Rockford, Illinois and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of Funeral service at 1:00 PM, held at the DeClue Funeral Home, 301 East High Street, Potosi, Missouri 63664, with Pastor Robert Nash officiating.
Interment and final prayers were held in the Sunlight Cemetery with full military honors presented by the United States Army and VFW Post 6947.
Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Funeral Home.
