Betty Smith

Betty Jean Smith of Hopewell, Missouri passed away December 10, 2007 at her residence. She was born on November 15, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Eugene Joseph Atchley and Ione Isabelle (Stoddard) Atchley.

Betty was united in marriage to Glen Smith on January 7, 1947, at Jackson, Missouri and five children were born to this union. Glen preceded her in death on March 3, 1987. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a dear sister, aunt and cousin.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two sisters Genell Atchley and Janet Thompson and a brother Jack Atchley.

Those who remain to mourn her passing are her children Donna Jean Goodson and husband Donnie of Valle Mines, Brenda Kay Smith and husband Karl, Glen Wayne Smith and wife Betty Sue, Danny Ray Smith and wife Joann, Michael David Smith and wife Mary all of Hopewell; one sister Judy Presley and husband Robert of Wood River, IL; 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her

Funeral services were conducted at 2 PM, Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Britton Chapel, with Rev. Guy Conway officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Darren Smith, Dennis Smith, Nathan Goodson, Michael Smith, Tim Presley, Richie Reeves, Shawn Hilton and Dennis Sumpter.

Interment and finale prayers were at the New Diggins Cemetery, Mineral Point, Missouri. All arrangement were entrusted in the care of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
