Bessie Riddle

Bessie Rebecca Riddle of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on January 17, 2009 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of eighty five years, two months and eight days. She was born on November 9, 1923 a daughter of the late Isaac ?Ike? Benson and Nancy Wigger Benson.

Bessie was united in marriage to Marvin ?Pistol? Riddle on July 26, 1941 and they shared almost fifty years together. Mr. Riddle preceded her in death on July 5, 1991.

Bessie was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Sam Benson, Isaac Benson, Alfred Benson, Paul Benson, Floyd and Lloyd Benson, twin brother Jesse Benson, sister Hazel Ennis, Daughter Ruby Lawson, grand daughter Lena Lawson and a grandson Bryan Coffman.

Those who remain to mourn the passing of her life are daughters Judy Coffman and husband Andy of Potosi; Nancy Gibson and husband Mike of Potosi; brother Rolla Benson of California; sisters in law Jetty Benson of Potosi and Norma Green and husband Ray of Potosi; one grandchild JoAnn Hall and one great grand child Chelsey Kathcart both of Potosi; special friends Edna Rowe and Midge Johnson; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.

Bessie enjoyed each and every moment that she spent playing the guitar with Marvin. She loved painting scenery pictures, going out to dinner with her friends, fishing, and having cookouts with her family. She would laugh and have a good time. She loved the days where she and Marvin would walk the farm over and over many days, just to see the cattle and horses. She loved her dog Mason. He got his name from having his head stuck in a mason jar when he was little. Checkers was her game and she loved playing and challenging anyone, because she always won. If checkers and guitars are in heaven, she?s probably involved in both, and praising the Lord for bringing her to heaven to be with her loved ones.

Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 1 PM at the Britton Chapel with Rev. Leonard Compton officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Riddle, Kenny Riddle, Allen Riddle, Dennis Marler, John Simpson, Norman Gibson.

Interment and final prayers were held at Sunset Hill Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
