Benjamin Franklin Emily, of Farmington, Missouri was born on September 11, 1929 in Richwoods, Missouri a son to the late Benjamin Franklin Emily and the late Marguerite (Gloroid) Emily. On March 3, 1967, Ben was united in marriage to Mary Carol Marler and they shared nearly fifty-one years together.

Ben went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his home having reached the age of eighty-eight years, one month and twenty-eight days.

Ben will be missed by his dear family who loved him so much including his wife, Carol Emily of Farmington; three brothers: Jerry Emily and wife Carol of Arnold; Herbert Emily of Farmington; Melvin Emily and wife Tommie Sue of Bonne Terre; one sister, Mary Lawson and husband Abe of Mineral Point; brothers and sisters- in-law: Lynn and Lousie Marler, Tom and Joanne Marler, Ronald and Ronda Marler, Judy Warden, Edith Marler and Marvin and Elaine Mercer; also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his father and mother, Ben was preceded in death by three brothers: Raymond, Robert and Donald Emily; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Mercer, Mary Emily and Faith Marler; brothers-in-law: Robert Marler and Jerry Warden.

Ben proudly served in the United States Army from July 8, 1948 to September 30, 1968 when he retired from the military. During his time of service, Ben fought in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received the following medals: Air Medal, Army Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal, National Defense Medal with one Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, Sharp Shooter Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, United Nation Medal, Expert Badge and the Army Aviation Medal. Ben was proud of his service. He will receive full military honors consisting of TAPS, gun salute, and flag folding and presentation. Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army and the Leadington VFW Post 5741.

The family received friends on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. with a VFW Service at 6:30 p.m. at the DeClue Funeral Home, 301 East High Street, Potosi, Missouri 63664.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Ben’s life was held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. held from the DeClue Memorial Chapel with Pastor John Canterberry officiating assisted by Pastor Ron Marler. Honoring Ben by serving as casket bearers were: James Warden, Jeremy Warden, Jason Emily, Larry Marler, Jerry Lee Marler and Richard Emily.

Interment and final prayers were held in the Hillview Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Funeral Home, Potosi.
