Barbara Skaggs

September 17, 1941 — June 24, 2010

Barbara Kay Skaggs of Valley Park, Missouri departed this life June 27, 2010 at the Big Bend Woods Healthcare Center having reached the age of sixty eight years, nine months and ten days. She was born on September 17, 1941 at Potosi, Missouri a daughter to the late Luther Jenkins and Florence (Eye) Jenkins.

Barbara was a very active and popular in her high school years and graduated from Potosi High School in 1959.

She married her high school sweetheart Jack Skaggs of Potosi in 1960 at White Oak Grove Baptist Church with Elder Ralph Gibson officiating. To this union one son was born. Jack Skaggs passed away in 2010. Barbara was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Roxie Jenkins and brother Edward John Jenkins.

She worked as a Secretary for twenty years for the Potosi R-3 School District and then worked for over eighteen years for the Windsor C-1 School District in Imperial, Missouri. For over eight years she was a member of the Missouri Council of School Administrators Association (MCSA) and attending their annual workshops.

Barbara found the Lord early in life and was a young active member of the White Oak Grove Baptist Church having joined the church at age 13, then later converted to Catholicism in 2009 and was a regular member of Assumption Catholic Church of Mehlville, Missouri.

Barbara is survived by her loving and faithful son and daughter in law Dr. Clayton Skaggs and wife Nancy of Kirkwood; one grandson Peter Ray of Owensville; one granddaughter Madeleine Skaggs of Kirkwood; one sister Burnadeen Yost of Fenton; one brother Reggie Jenkins of Potosi; one sister in law Doris June Jenkins of Potosi; nieces nephews, host of cousins and many friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 2 PM at the St. James Catholic Church, Potosi with Father John Seper, pastor of the Assumtion Catholic Church of Mattis, St. Louis contucting the Funeral Mass with Father Joe Welschmeyer Concelebrating. Special Music provided by Janet Yost and the St. James Church Resurrection Choir and organist Mrs. Rebecca Richards.

A graveside committal service and interment was held at White Oak Grove Baptist Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
