Arthur Lynn Portell, a dedicated Christian, husband, brother and uncle, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 26, 2024 having reached the age of 86. Lynn was born in Cadet, Missouri on April 2, 1937 as one of 8 children, to Floyd and Myrtle (Whitter) Portell. Lynn received the Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in 1971 and served him in every capacity for 50 years. He attended Happy Grove Church of God.
A loving husband to his wife Jo Ann (Emily) Portell with whom he shared a remarkable journey since their marriage on June 20, 1964. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with remarkable memories that will forever be cherished.
Growing up in Cadet, Missouri, Lynn attended Belle Fountain School, where he laid the foundations of a life marked by hard work and perseverance. Lynn worked various jobs before embarking on a successful career with Chrysler where he retired from in 1992.
Lynn had a passion for music. He was a talented guitar player and was privileged to play in both gospel groups and country western bands.
“Uncle Lynn was the sweetest soul with the biggest heart. He was loyal, reliable, and always there for those in need. He had the most generous heart and his heart to help others was inspiring. He was a big ol’ bawl bag who loved his family and Jesus. He always had tears of joy and gratitude in his eyes. He was easy to talk to and so funny. Not only was he funny but he was the biggest stinker. He was quick on his feet and was so witty. He always had a joke ready and enjoyed making others laugh and smile. He was a super special human and I am so grateful for his influence in my life.” Sierra
Lynn is survived by his loving wife, Jo Ann; five siblings: Danny Portell, Gary Portell (wife, Janet), Nona Thebeau (husband, Rev. Lynn), Peggy Turnbough (husband, Rev. Mark), and Debbie Holt; special in-laws: Sharon Minx (husband, Wayne), Sydney Emily, Jeffrey Emily (wife, Vickie), and Scott Emily. Lynn also leaves behind many very special nieces, nephews and friends.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Myrtle Portell; two sisters: Glenda Kay Harmon and Bonnie Gibson; sisters-in-law: Barbara Emily Singer and Gloria Price; brothers-in-law: Danny Emily, Terry Emily, Clifton Gibson, and Ronnie Harmon; and special nephew, Brad Minx as well as other dear nieces and nephews.
