Allen Mathes

Allen Wayne Mathes of Arcadia, Missouri departed this life October 7, 2010 at Barnes Jewish Hospital having reached the age of fifty four years, eleven months and twenty days. He was born on October 17, 1955 at Salem, Missouri a son to Verlon Mathes and Mary (Helms) Mathes.

Allen served in the United States Air Force from 1974 – 1978.

On July 12, 1975, Allen was united in marriage to Barbara White and they shared thirty five years together.

Allen was a member of the Christian Church of Viburnum; Hopewell Masonic Lodge #259; Arcadia Valley Elks; Arcadia Valley Jaycees; The Missouri Sheriffs Association; Dare Instructor; Range Instructor; Hunter Safety Education Instructor; Under Water Search and Rescue; National Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited.

Allen worked for the Iron County Law Enforcement for a total of thirty two years. He was deputy for twenty two years and sheriff for the past ten years. In addition Allen also served as Police Chief for both Arcadia and Viburnum.

Allen had an unconditional love for his family. He handled his job seriously and did it with the best of his ability. He was a great man of honor and was well respected.

Allen was preceded in death by his grandparents Glen and Zoe Helms and Delbert and Thelma Mathes.

Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife Barbara Mathes of Arcadia; parents Verlon and Mary Mathes of Bixby; daughter Jennifer Hogan and husband Daniel of Arcadia; two grandchildren Jacob Hogan and Hunter Hogan of Arcadia; four sisters Linda Foster and husband Danny of Illinois; Robin Harper of Rolla; Patricia Gann and husband David of Rolla; Cindy Mathes of Farmington; one brother Brent Mathes and wife Angel of Bixby; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 11 AM at the Ironton 1st Baptist Church with Rev. George Civey officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Jimmy Mayes, Tim Morris, Scott Maxey, Tim Allen, Marcus Conrad, John Penfield, David Cunningham, John Rueweler and Roger Medley.

Interment and final prayers were held at Ironton Masonic Cemetery. All arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
