Alfred Johns

Clarence Alfred Johns of Farmington, Missouri, formerly of Potosi, departed this life on July 24, 2007 at Presbyterian Manor Nursing Home, having reached the age of 87 years, 1 month and 24 days. He was born on May 31, 1920 at Leadwood, Missouri, a son of the late Hugh William Johns and Maude Brand Johns.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Leon Johns.

He graduated from McKinley High School in 1938 and was a long-time resident of Collinsville, Illinois before retiring to Potosi, Missouri. On September 10, 1941, he was united in marriage to Junella Glore and four children were born to that union. He was a loving and devoted husband and father; a dear brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

Al retired from Union Electric after 40 years at Venice and Rush Island power plants and served on the board of Union Electric Credit Union. During World War II, he served with U.S. Army in France and Germany. He was a member of the Potosi Lions Club, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.

Those who remain to mourn the passing of his life are his beloved wife for 65 years, Junella Johns (nee Glore); his children, Patricia Wise and husband Mike of Chesterfield, MO, Frank Johns and wife Dana of Troy, IL, Marilyn Roberson and husband John of Glen Carbon, IL, and Bruce Johns of Tucson, AZ; his loving grandchildren, Gail Russell-Tisius, Scott Nordyke, Mark Roberson, Chad Roberson and Dale Johns; his dear great grandchildren, Erica Russell, Candice Nordyke and Megan Nordyke; nieces; nephews; cousins and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, July 26, 2007, 1 PM at the Britton Chapel, Potosi, Missouri with Rev. John Canterberry officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Bruce Johns, Frank Johns, Dale Johns, Mark Roberson, Chad Roberson and Scott Nordyke.

Interment and final prayers were held at New Masonic Cemetery, Potosi, Missouri. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
