Alene Draper

December 7, 1921 — August 23, 2009

Alene Ellen Draper of Caledonia, Missouri departed this life August 23, 2009 at the Potosi Manor Nursing Home having reached the age of eighty seven years, eight months and sixteen days. She was born on December 7, 1921 at Courtois, Missouri a daughter to the late Cloan Gilliam and Clara (Keffer) Gilliam.

Alene loved taking care of people, going fishing, camping, shopping and going to church to sing. Grandpa called her ?Alene Go?.

She liked making pies, dumpings and dinner rolls (she claimed they were better). She loved cooking for the boys so they could eat after hunting. One day she would make ham and beans. The next day she would make chili. One time Rodney spooned out a hamhock in his chili. Grandma said ?You caught me?.

When Christopher was six years old, he took granny for a ride on the 4-wheeler.

Alene was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.

In addition to her parents, Alene was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Draper; two sons James Draper, Louie Draper; great granddaughter Casey Hochstatter; five sisters Ona Britton, Bessie Hensley, Irene Blair, Lucille Reeves, Thelma Martin; four brothers Holmer Gilliam, Loman Gilliam, Herman Gilliam and Howard Gilliam.

Those who remain to mourn the passing of her life are a son Edgar Draper and wife Margaret of Caledonia; daughter Nancy Greenwalt and husband Roger of Belgrade; two daughter in laws Reva Draper of Mineral Point and Patsy Draper of Belgrade; sister Anna Mae Vance of Steelville; brother Purn Gilliam and wife Delorise of Davisville; thirteen grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two step great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 1 PM at the DeClue Family Chapel with Rev. Kevin Kappler, Rev. Carol Brown and Rev. Oscar Barton officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Rodney Greenwalt, Jeremy Greenwalt, Christopher Kappler, Jason Draper, Curtis Draper and Larry Greenwalt.

Interment and final prayers were held at the Caledonia Methodist Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
